Yes! Skaters can wear hockey skates or figure skates in Learn to Skate USA class. After mastering the skills in Basic 1 and Basic 2, skaters can transfer to a Learn to Play hockey program or an instructional league but we encourage skaters to continue through the Learn to Skate basic skills program to get the full benefit.
The adult classes are for beginners and advanced skaters 18 and older (exceptions can be made for 16+ but on an as evaluated basis). You will move through the Adult 1-6 levels at your own pace.

We strongly encourage skaters in Snowplow Sam, Basic 1 and Adult 1 to wear a helmet. Make sure the helmet fits and the chin strap is fastened.
Gloves! A light sweater or jacket. Pants or leggings that you can move in.
Little kids wear the same size in skates and shoes. Big kids, teens and adults usually wear skates one size smaller (Shoes 7 = Skates 6). You want a snug fit. Wear one pair of tall thin socks that cover your ankles. Lace skates tightly all the way to the top.
Talk to a coach before you buy skates. Coaches can help you choose the right size and model, and avoid an expensive mistake. There are skate sellers you can talk to locally or in nearby cities - we have two representatives in our club (see Coaches tab for information). There are also many online sources, once you know the size and model you need.
Size charts: Edea, Jackson, Riedell
There will be four Learn to Skate sessions at 7 classes per session. More details can be found here.
There are NO make up classes built into our sessions and refunds are subject to board discretion. Similar to other sports and activities, we purchase ice time and employee coaches based on the number of students enrolled. Therefore, as a general rule, there are no refunds after a session has started.
No. Only skaters who are enrolled in a class may skate in the practice area. This is a class run by the Sycamore Club under USFSA figure skating. It is not public ice or sessions run under Perry Park. As such, all adults on the ice need to be USFSA Members who have completed background checks and SafeSkate courses. We do have authorized Skate Monitors on the ice during the practice sessions that can help young children as needed. If your skater is uncomfortable on the ice during the practice time without you we recommend you come back during public skate to help them acclimate and feel more comfortable during their class sessions.
Perry Park is responsible for the ice schedule for public sessions. If you have questions related to these please contact a Perry Park representative or see their monthly calendar posted on their website and FaceBook Site. Public session Admission will be charged. Rental skates are available.
Visit the Coaches page to see who teaches private lessons or talk directly with your favorite instructor. There is a contact button where you can submit a request for private lessons where a coach can then reach back out to you for coordination. Please be patient and understand that coaches have limited available time due to schedules, competitions, other jobs, and ice availability.
